Here is the final layout which i produced in 'InDesign'.
These are the two best designs which came from the original thumbs. I produced them on a grander scale to see if they worked properly. 
Here are my thumbnails which i drew to help me make a decision on the layout to choose.
The original magazine article came from 'Empire' magazine about Lord of the Rings being released on Blu -ray. Here you can see how i split up the article to show the grid they used.
Evaluation - I enjoyed drawing the thumbs and original designs, using different toned grey pens gives them a bit of depth and makes them look professional. I wasn't that pleased with the end result, i think it could be improved by a better stock and better font for the title. Also the images that i used were not of great quality and had been defaced be me by drawing out the grid previously.
