Brief Evaluation - Higher Ground

This brief to me feels lacking in some way. Probably because there aren't as many deliverables as the others. I am happy with my branding of the band though. The logo I designed I am very pleased with, its what a logo should be simple and good looking. I think I have conveyed the message through the branding and done this appropriately for the target audience. What I would have done differently if I were to do this again is really explore the mail out layout and push different ideas and themes within it. The mail out works and looks alright but it doesn't really have the 'wow' factor which I want to produce with all my design work. This brief has made me taught me and made me think more about print processes and inks because I usually design full colour, so designing duo tone make you think differently about approaching a design.

Submission Boards

Main change was the 1st board in which I switched the image of the mailout/business cards with the logo as it has more impact and is more appropriate. Added more negative space to the 3 board as it looked to full.

CD Designs

Designs for the CD, I wanted to keep it simple with aspects of the logo and a description of the CD, the 5th design is my favourite. The large trumpets and gold ring works well.

Mail out Print out

I printed out a mock up of the mail out. I've noticed a few typos and slight changes I need to rectify but I think it works well.

Live banners

These banners would be placed on the music stands which the horn section would use. I mocked one up on the computer because I couldn't find a appropriate image to use. The 1st design works the best because the limited use of gold and the white space. Also in reality this design would be easiest to produce on the fabric.

Drum mock up

Looking at different durm kits I decided to use one that has one tom and the style of the set up is called club which I think is appropriate.
I then changed the colour in 'Ps' so it was consistent with the 'gold' colour throughout the design
Branded the bass drum with the logo, I also tried the trumpet image but the logo worked better because the shape of it is more central to the circle of the bass drum.

Business Card

Printed out the card to see if it works and everything is legible and big enough.

Higher Ground business cards

Design ideas for the business cards. The left hand side ones are just generic 'band' cards but I thought that the band would need individual ones aswell.

Logo Development

Trumpet

As an experiment I did this trumpet, I thought I could use illustration with in the Higher Ground design. I will have to experiment further to see if illustration is the right road to go down.

Names

For my second brief of branding a motown function band I needed to choose a name so I could start Designing.

I started to design some initial ideas for the name 'The Move On Ups'

But I have now changed my mind and gone for the name of 'Higher Ground'.
