Type

Showing the development of an idea i had for the antler brain tonic type.

Friday, 29 October 2010

Rationale

I intend to package and promote a line of brain tonics that use traces of antlers that improve mental activity. This would be aimed at a predominately male academic and creative audience aged between 16-30.
This intellectual "red bull" would be in high end sandwich shops and coffee shops around offices and universities/colleges.
The range of brain tonics would consist of five different antler tonics which offer slightly different mental effects on the audience.

Little Sketch

Here is just a little idea to show the kind of approach i want to do the label in. I need to think about the name of the product before i can really get into the design.
Did a little sketch of what the label could look like for my brain tonic.

Bottles

My bottles arrived today they look real nice. Now i can measure up and start making some designs for labels. I bought 5

Early ideas

For the Good print brief i had an idea to use the Antler Medicine idea as a vessel to design some medicine bottles or containers. Because there are different kinds of antlers and medicinal qualities i you could assign a different type of antler to a problem and have a range.
Here i have added some colour to show the range in a clearer way

Emboss, Deboss, im da boss

After talking with Mr.Lorenzo about embossing without plates i thought i would give it a go with the antlers i cut out before .

Its not as clean an emboss as it would be with plates and a press but for mock ups and ideas its a effective way of showing what it would look like.

Caduceus

Researching into the caduceus (symbol of medicine) gave me an idea to change the wings into antlers for my medicine range.

The original Cacuceus.
I then tried different types of antlers on the staffI thought the moose antler design worked best. The sides of the antlers were not a mirror image of each other so i did this with the right and left antlers.

Prototype 2

Envelope Design

I tried different colour scheme for the back of the envelope. I also changed the net shape because it didn't look great when folded up

Sticker

Using the logo with the black circle behind on an earlier design i thought it would look better as a sticker to seal the letter and bottle nets. I added a white and black border around the design.

Prototype

I made a little prototype to see if some of my design ideas were working.
The inside pattern works. But the main design doesn't. Also the envelope folds dont look that good so i will revise them also.

logo

For the image i wanted to make a logo using the outline of a stag. I started to make these with different deer.

I then found a head and antlers that looked really bold but the body didn't work so i traced another body which looked good and placed them together

Antler silhouettes

I imagined the silhouettes of different antlers all lined up would look good as a back ground pattern.
I started to find pictures of antlers that were face on.
Then i started to cut them out.

I thought that more variety would be better so when you look at it repeated it would be hard to tell that its a pattern so i cut out some more.

Here is was it would sort of look like on red background.

This what the pattern would look like.
